About This Show

Nationally acclaimed authors S. C. “Sam” Gwynne and Stephen Harrigan will share the stage, in a roundtable format, with renowned Texas historian and podcaster, Justice Ken Wise. Justice Wise will serve as moderator in an interesting discussion about the authors’ experiences writing their award winning books, a discussion which will include their insights into Texas history.

S. C. Gwynne is the author of Pulitzer Prize finalist, Empire of the Summer Moon, a compelling story about the rise and fall of the fierce Comanche Indians. The book sold over 5 million copies worldwide, and the movie rights were recently purchased by Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the immensely popular television miniseries, Yellowstone and other terrific films, including, Siciaro and Hell or High Water. Gwynne was a correspondent, bureau chief and senior editor of Time magazine. He also served as Executive Editor of Texas Monthly.

Stephen Harrigan is an award winning novelist, journalist and screenwriter, perhaps best known in his home state for the epic, Big Wonderful Thing: A History of Texas. His other award winning works include Gates of the Alamo, Remember Ben Clayton, and A Friend of Mr. Lincoln, to name a few. As a screenwriter his works have appeared on HBO, CBS, TNT and the Hallmark Channel.

Justice Ken Wise currently sits on the 12 Court of Appeals in Houston, but he is best known to Texas history enthusiasts as the creator and host of the award winning podcast, Wise About Texas. His podcast is listened to weekly by more than 100,00 people! Harrigan and Gwynne are close personal friends and both have been previously interviewed by Justice Wise, which should make for some interesting conversations among the three of them.

This event is being brought to you by the Bridge Street History Center. This evening will not be a history lecture but rather a fun evening of interesting insights into the writers’ craft and a discussion of Texas tales, anecdotes, and information you might not otherwise be aware of. This is a unique opportunity for you to see all three of these talented and award winning men at one time on the same stage. You won’t want to miss it.
