The New Granbury Live has had a great run of big name stars in a very short period. In less then two months we have had Gene Watson, the Bellamy Brothers, Johnny Rodriquez, and Moe Bandy! In the immediate future we have Janie Fricke, John Conlee, Rudy Gatlin and T. G Shepard all scheduled to appear!

It is so much fun to talk with ticket holders after one of these “Big Star” shows and hear what they have to say about the performers and the theater. From people who are making their first trip to the New Granbury Live, I get comments about the quality of the sound and how incredibly close people are to the performers and the intimate feel it creates. I also hear people say Granbury Live is the best place to see a performance they have ever been! At our recent Gene Watson show I was approached by more than a couple of people who said they had seen Gene perform lots of times, but this might have been the best show! It gives me a lot of pleasure to know when we are satisfying the wants and needs of our customers!

If there is someone you would really like to see come to Granbury Live, shoot me an email and give your input. At Granbury Live we want to bring you the people you want to hear and provide a unique memorable experience you cannot get anywhere else! No telling what we have up our sleeve and what we will be bringing to you next!

Make no mistake about it, there is a lot of work to be done running a busy theater like the New Granbury Live.

There is a constant search for new acts which will appeal to our audience, marketing for future shows, sponsorship fulfillment, employees to manage, as well as theater upkeep and housekeeping. I feel like sometimes I meet myself coming and going! On the other hand, there are times like this past Saturday when I almost (notice I said almost!) feel guilty about taking a check!

Saturday, we had the legendary Moe Bandy and his Americana Band in the house and they were terrific! Moe is without a doubt one of the easiest to work with and kindest fellas in show business. His whole band were consummate professionals but at the same time, were happy to accommodate the fans.

We ordinarily feed the bands before a show and that time is quickly beginning to be one of my favorite times of the week. The crew all sits around and eats and invariably the band starts to tell stories about concerts and locations and adventures they have had with other artists. It is so much fun and very informative! I think I could sell dinner invitations! People would enjoy being a part of this intimate insight into the performance world. I also think the bands love this time where they are treated like family and have some human interaction and can just be plain old folks!

I got a text from Moe and the guys from their bus as they made the long road back to Missouri. They thanked me for our hospitality and bragged about the quality of our venue and audience. I texted back and told them they now felt like friends and I was excited to think about them coming to see us all again soon!

I hope we are Granbury Live make all our customers feel like they are coming to see friends!

This past Saturday, the incomparable Michael Hix was at Granbury Live performing a show called “Lets Go to Vegas”. Sadly, I was out of town on other business for Michael’s performance, but when I got back in town and went to breakfast Monday morning at my favorite diner (#Pam’s), before I could even sit down two of my breakfast crew regulars told me they had been to Michael’s show and had the time of their lives!

They kept saying repeatedly, “Where does he get that much energy…I was exhausted just watching him!” They also commented on his originality as demonstrated in the comedy skit where he plays the “dummy” to his drummer, Josh Rogers, who plays a ventriloquist. Well I am here to tell you Michael is not dummy, in fact, he is a comedy and musical genius, but he and Josh brought the house to their knees in laughter.

I am told the most poignant moment in the show was when Michael brought a young girl up on the stage and asked her to sing with him, and when he asked for her favorite song, she said “Jesus Loves Me”. Well Michael never missed a beat and he and the young lady were soon joined by the crowd in for a very special Granbury Live moment.

When I got to my office there was an email from Michael, telling me he was sorry we didn’t get to see each other at his show, telling me how great the audience was and how terrific my staff had treated him. You see my friend Michael is just as nice a guy as he is a talented guy. He and his wife Ginny make a great team and I am pleased they are my friend, and part of the mix here at the New Granbury Live.

Michael will be back May 5 th for two shows: one at 2 and one at 7pm. If you missed his performance this past weekend, get tickets for his new show, “Motown Madness” and have one of the best times you can have anywhere, at any price. The best part will be your opportunity to watch a one of the really “good guys” is show business!
