We had a great Granbury Live Follies show last night and had two special groups which made up a part of our audience. We had a big group from the First Methodist Church in Granbury as well as a large group from the Lone Star Street Rod Club. Since we knew the Car Show was in town, the subject matter for our show was “Cruisin”; meaning the kind of music you like to listen to when you are driving around in your car. We sang the Beach Boys, Beatles, Motown, and many other great songs and many times the crowd would sing along. It was a great bunch
of fun for the audience and for the performers!

Have you thought about bringing a group to a show at Granbury Live? We provide groups of ten or more with special pricing, preferred seating, and an experience which will put a smile on your entire group! memory

Memories are a powerful human event. We all have memories. Sometimes memories are good thoughts which take us to a time or place where we were happy, healthy, and carefree. There are a lot of things which trigger memories; the smell of bread baking might take you back to your grandmother’s house on Thanksgiving, the smell of chlorine could transform you back to the neighborhood pool where you swam as a kid, and the scent of leather always takes me back to days spent a horseback. Perhaps there is no greater memory trigger then music. When you hear an old song, it seems to take you back to the time, place and location where you “lived it” and it frequently puts a smile on a person’s face. I always tend to remember someone I was dancing with, people I was riding around in a car when the song played, or a quiet moment late at night when I would listen on my nightstand radio.

Granbury Live is going to have a tribute to The Carpenters as performed by Diana Lynn on June 23. Of course, the Carpenters really need no introduction. From the late 60’s thru the 70’s they were one of the most powerful performers in popular music. With 15 #1 Hits and over 100 million records sold, they are one of the most popular artists of all time!  Diana Lynn has been performing her Carpenter’s Tribute Show for some time and has garnered a great deal of critical review and recognition in her own right. Perhaps none more significant than her show being awarded the Best Tribute Show in Branson!

Where we you when you first heard “Rainy Days and Mondays”? How many weddings did you attend when “Close to You” was played? Maybe even your own? The Carpenter’s music brings back lots of great memories and Diana Lynn will bring all those memories back to life at the New Granbury Live on June 23 at 3pm and again at 7 pm. Get your tickets now and rekindle your old memories. You will be glad you did!

Victor

This past weekend the tremendous Victor Trevino was at the New Granbury Live. It is always a great pleasure to have Victor in the house because besides being a genuine talent and very nice young man, he is truly the BEST young Elvis tribute artist! He has the same physical look, the same tone to his voice, and commands the same strong stage presence as the “King”.

Victor put on a spectacular show and I bet I have heard from twenty people already asking me to be sure and bring Victor back for another performance soon!

After almost every show, I send out a survey asking a section of the people who were at the show to rate our web site, the theater, the show they saw, the lights and sound, and whether they would recommend the New Granbury Live to a friend. I wanted to take just a second to tell you I received 30 responses from those who attended the Victor Trevino Elvis Tribute and on a score of 1 to 5 (with 5 being the best), folks rated us with an average of 4.86! Every single person said they would recommend Granbury Live to a friend! It makes me proud so many of our patrons appreciate the quality shows we present and value the entertainment experience we provide. If you are one of our patrons, we thank you and appreciate your business. If you haven’t ever been to a show at Granbury Live, pick out a show from out variety of different productions, and come and join the fun! Your friends and neighbors believe you will have a good time and I do too! Looking forward to having YOU in the house!

Until the next time…

Gatlin

Rudy Gatlin made an appearance at the New Granbury Live this past Saturday. I love the style of show he presented. I call it a “sing and talk”. He sang some of the many hits of the Grammy Award Winning Gatlin Brothers, but also showed pictures and told stories about his nearly 60 years of life in the entertainment business. It was fascinating to hear Rudy talk about starting his career at 2 ½ years old and the number of famous entertainers he has had contact with over this long period of time.

Rudy was also frank about his recovery from the abuse of alcohol and cocaine and proudly announced he had been “sober” for over 30 years. Sad how so many performers who have found money and fame suffer the problems associated with drug and alcohol abuse. Rudy’s story was heartwarming to hear and I hope for his continued life of sobriety.

It is amazing the number of hits the Gatlin Brothers recorded and it was a pleasure having “the Brother on the right” in the house on Saturday. I wish my new friend all the best and hope his career continues for a long time to come. He sure has something to offer!

comedy night

We had an exciting new event at Granbury Live over the weekend. It was our very first Comedy night and I am here to tell you it was a smashing success! It was not a big sell out, but since this was our first attempt to present stand up comedians, I truly anticipated the crowd would be small and we will build an audience over time.

Tom Clark was the headliner for the evening and he has performed on the Conan Show, on the Late, Late Show and all over America in a variety of comedy clubs and showcases.  Tom did a terrific job and really had the audience going. I know I was laughing so hard a time or two that my mind was made up we needed to continue to have standup comedy at Granbury Live! Steph Clark and Kip Hart rounded out the rest of the performance card with really solid performances.

I know not everyone is a fan of standup.  Some folks are uncomfortable with some of the subject matters or with some of the language and implications. Just so everyone knows, Granbury Live will never have truly “raw” comedians or performers who are just downright vulgar. I would hope if you believe you might be offended by standup, you choose to attend one of our other shows. If, however, you like to have a good laugh and enjoy standup, we are going to have comedy shows in the future you will love.  At Granbury Live we want to serve the entire entertainment consuming community and present shows which appeal to a variety of different interests and tastes.

We love our supporters and patrons and hope we continue in a tradition of presenting quality shows in a intimate and pleasant environment.

theater hero

The New Granbury Live has had a great run of big name stars in a very short period. In less then two months we have had Gene Watson, the Bellamy Brothers, Johnny Rodriquez, and Moe Bandy! In the immediate future we have Janie Fricke, John Conlee, Rudy Gatlin and T. G Shepard all scheduled to appear!

It is so much fun to talk with ticket holders after one of these “Big Star” shows and hear what they have to say about the performers and the theater. From people who are making their first trip to the New Granbury Live, I get comments about the quality of the sound and how incredibly close people are to the performers and the intimate feel it creates. I also hear people say Granbury Live is the best place to see a performance they have ever been! At our recent Gene Watson show I was approached by more than a couple of people who said they had seen Gene perform lots of times, but this might have been the best show! It gives me a lot of pleasure to know when we are satisfying the wants and needs of our customers!

If there is someone you would really like to see come to Granbury Live, shoot me an email and give your input. At Granbury Live we want to bring you the people you want to hear and provide a unique memorable experience you cannot get anywhere else! No telling what we have up our sleeve and what we will be bringing to you next!

samandmoe

Make no mistake about it, there is a lot of work to be done running a busy theater like the New Granbury Live.

There is a constant search for new acts which will appeal to our audience, marketing for future shows, sponsorship fulfillment, employees to manage, as well as theater upkeep and housekeeping. I feel like sometimes I meet myself coming and going! On the other hand, there are times like this past Saturday when I almost (notice I said almost!) feel guilty about taking a check!

Saturday, we had the legendary Moe Bandy and his Americana Band in the house and they were terrific! Moe is without a doubt one of the easiest to work with and kindest fellas in show business. His whole band were consummate professionals but at the same time, were happy to accommodate the fans.

We ordinarily feed the bands before a show and that time is quickly beginning to be one of my favorite times of the week. The crew all sits around and eats and invariably the band starts to tell stories about concerts and locations and adventures they have had with other artists. It is so much fun and very informative! I think I could sell dinner invitations! People would enjoy being a part of this intimate insight into the performance world. I also think the bands love this time where they are treated like family and have some human interaction and can just be plain old folks!

I got a text from Moe and the guys from their bus as they made the long road back to Missouri. They thanked me for our hospitality and bragged about the quality of our venue and audience. I texted back and told them they now felt like friends and I was excited to think about them coming to see us all again soon!

I hope we are Granbury Live make all our customers feel like they are coming to see friends!

bellamies with sam

The longer I am in this world of entertainment, the more experiences I have with a variety of bands and performers. I am sure it is like any other group of people, doctors, lawyers, teachers, or any other profession; Some are easy to deal with and professional and others are…well let’s just say they are on the other extreme!

This past Saturday Granbury Live had the thrill of having one of the great names in music, The Bellamy Brothers, appear on our stage. These guys perform over 150 shows a year! They just got back from performing in Sri Lanka and Dubai and they have performed all over the world for over 40 years! From the time they arrived at GBL until they walked out the door, they were nothing but professional and courteous. They put on a memorable show which left the audience wanting more and they left the theater admiring the quality of our sound and the unique intimacy of the theater. It was especially cool for me how all the guys in the band commented about our performance space and how great it was to be so close and personal with the audience.

From their bus driver to the Bellamy Brothers themselves, everyone on their team was a person who you would like to call a friend. I can’t wait to have them back and I do hope if you missed this sold out show you will get your tickets early for the next show! They are something to see!
